When to choose magnetic rulers instead of optical ones?
Here are two real-life examples where choosing magnetic rulers was a clear advantage for the customer.

A customer from Slovakia contacted us to ask whether we could add a measuring device to his machine, as he was unable to tell us the exact length of the ruler because the existing measuring device was installed at a shorter length than the actual travel of the machine in the given axis. The dimension provided was an estimate of between 7 and 8 meters. The ideal option we offered the customer was a magnetic linear ruler with the designation TMLS-05SG, where individual profiles can be connected according to the customer's needs. The magnetic tape can also be adjusted to the required length on site.
The result was the use of 3 SG profiles (each 3 m long), the last of which was adjusted on site to the required length of 7.8 m after we removed the old measuring device.
We also shortened the MT-02-02 magnetic tape to the required length. At the same time, we provided the customer with a tape accuracy report.
The icing on the cake was the replacement of the old, unsuitable and irreparable indicator with a new TS-MAX indicator with a 10" display and 6-axis mounting for possible expansion with additional axes.
where the total length of the longitudinal feed was around 4 meters. The customer does not use the entire length and was therefore only interested in measuring 3 meters. The reason was to save money.
After consultation with the customer, we proposed a solution made possible by our "open" linear magnetic scales, i.e. the AP-02 profile type with a magnetic tape and TMLS-05A-02 sensor, which allow the sensor to "slide out" of the scale profile and return without risk of damage to the measuring system. This option is used in cases where the customer does not use the entire length of the machine but does not want to limit the machine's capabilities by installing a measuring system.
